With the Steel Plant at the heart of the industrial city of Jamshedpur, over 20 thousand houses were built by Tata company which surrounds the steel plant. This Tata kingdom which employed modern town planning principles, ushering in modernity through industrialization and its associated way of life. It comprises of parks, houses, clubs and every other amenity of a modern city. People who work for Tata or live on the land sub leased by TSL (Tata Steel Limited), enjoy these amenities. The variety of Tata housing type ranges from bungalows, flats and quarters setting forth a display of privileges one would have according to it status. The housing system has established the concept of hierarchy based on the person's ranking in the company ever since the city was started 110 years back. The management is divided in 3 levels: the senior management (officers), the middle management (supervisors) and the junior management (workers).
