A Spell in Paradise is a project based on the women’s cricket community in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It introduces the nuances of the life of an all-women community pursuing a largely male-glorified sport in a conflict-ridden state. They break the typicality of how genders are expected to be and the conventional notion about cricket as a game of men. The project reflects on the the emotional dependencies and the bond between these players, that is intensified because of similar struggles they go through with their families and society in the course of keeping their passion of cricket alive. The aspects of gender, sexuality and intimacy emerge in this project. Their bond grows into distinct intimacies beyond the game of cricket. The undisguised display of affection and intimacy with one another without the slightest care of what others think is supplemented through the fidelity and togetherness that these players experience within this community.
